3 Ways to Beat the Winter Workout Blues

When it comes to winter training, there’s no such thing as a snow day for Mudders. While the justifications to NOT hit the gym are plentiful in the thick of winter, now is the time to start training if you want to crush the course.

Don’t let your workouts flatline—get inspired, and beat winter workout boredom, with these tips that’ll get you off of the couch and back into training mode.

1. Try Something New

Doing the same old routine is hardly inspiring. Switching up your workout programme will not only give you something new to focus on, it’s one of the fastest ways to see results.

You don’t have transform your entire training programme, just try mixing in a couple new virtual classes or instead of your gym working go swimming.

2. Ditch the Gym

Don’t belong to a gym? That’s no excuse. We’ve got simple, equipment free workout videos for all levels, plus a huge back catalogue of workout videos with official trainer Born Barikor. Add to that our FREE downloadable training guides and you’ve got a no-fuss, no-cost training plan at your fingertips.

3. Train with a Purpose

Aimlessly wandering the gym generally leaves you with a mediocre workout. Before even walking through the door, make a plan and go into your workout with a goal in mind. Worried you’ll lose motivation over time? Classes, whether IRL or virtual are a great way to add accountability to your training and having a teacher or trainer will help keep you on task.

The takeaway? While merely surviving through the winter may sometimes feel like Tough Mudder training (it has its similarities to a dunk in Arctic Enema) it’s important to keep your eyes fixed on larger goals—like your first headband, or new Legionnaire status—that’ll inspire you to put down the remote and pick up a dumbbell.

For extra training motivation, commit to the challenge (if you haven’t already) and sign up for an event.
